Campground Review – Cherry Hill Park, Washington DC

Cherry Hill Park is the closest campground to Washington DC.  The mass transit system of DC even has a bus stop (which connects you to the near by subway) right in the campground.  Once we got to the campground, we did not move our vehicle until we left because the mass transit system was by far the easiest way to see everything.  The mass transit system uses a card that you must reload with money in order to ride.  Cherry Hill will give you one of the cards (then you don’t have to purchase it) for you to load up and use on the system.  This is far more convenient than we can actually describe here.

The campground is great.  They have a beautiful pool area with a couple pools, game room, snack bar and more. The store is extremely well stocked with both gifts and necessities.  The sites are easy to back into and the layout of the campground is easy to navigate.  Their restroom facilities are first class.

The campground is obviously close to the urban areas so there are highways and traffic nearby.  This makes it convenient if you are sightseeing in DC but noisy if you just want to relax at the campground.

Campground Review – Pine Haven Camping Resort, Ocean View NJ

When visiting the Southern New Jersey Shore  – one of your premier camping destinations is Pine Haven Camping Resort in Ocean View.  Pine Haven is located midway between Wildwood and Ocean City.  They are closest to Sea Isle City and Stone Harbour.

Pine Haven has 629 sites.  Most are seasonal so call to see if they have transient sites available.  They offer a large pool, camp store, a large swimming lake, mini golf, a snack shop, scheduled activities and a large game room.

I personally spent many summers at Pine Haven with my family as a child and have since had the opportunity to take my wife and children there as well.

It is an older campground and since most of the sites are now seasonal – they have not updated their restrooms and shower facilities.  Most of their guests have their own RV facilities.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Just Camp On rating:  4 out of 5 stars.

Campground Review – KOA Elizabethtown/Hershey

The KOA in Elizabethtown PA (near Hershey) is a small but clean and well kept campground.  They have great shower facilities and campsites that are roomy and shaded. They have a nice, but not great outdoor pool.

The staff tends to be very rigid.  They have a lot of rules and they spend time enforcing them.  This is the only campground that I have been to that actually came to your site on the day of your checkout (before checkout time) to make sure you were leaving!  I understand rules and enforcement for the enjoyment of all campers, but there was a sense of ‘walking on eggshells’ at this KOA.

Campground Review – KOA Mystic, Conn.

The KOA in Mystic Connecticut provides a great camping experience.  It is easily accessible and has plenty of recreational room.  You don’t feel like they are trying to pack as many campers as possible onto their acreage.  They have great facilities and offer a nice store, jumping pillow for the kids and many activities like evening movies.  Their pool was very nice and I think they were updating it.  Looking at their website, I believe they have new pool facilities.

They have a nice RV parts store associated with the Campground at the entrance to the park.  This actually came in very handy for myself when I was camping there as I had a problem with my water heater.  The store was well stocked and the staff was very knowledgeable.

The park is very convenient to all of the Mystic sights.

Campground Review – Pettecote Junction Campground, PA Grand Canyon

Pettecote Junction Campground is in Tioga County near Wellsobor, PA.  This campground has an ideal and picturesque location right on the Pine Creek and along side the Rails to Trails (Pine Creek Trail).

The Campground is spacious and well kept.  There is no pool, but with the Creek so accessible, there is no need for one.  The store is small but has essentials.  A playground and firewood are available.  Restrooms are well cared for.

The owner can be a little stickler for the rules and a little short fused.  I have personally witnessed a couple run ins. The showers in the restrooms require quarters for operation.  This is due to them being located right along the trail and they have had many non campers stop by and refresh themselves with the showers – so now everyone has to pay extra.

The little town of Cedar Run is right there.  When we say little, we mean a dozen houses or so.  But, there is a great little Ice Cream Shop there that survives off of the campground I am sure.

Campground Review – Normandy Farms (Boston area)

One of the finest and highest rated Campgrounds that I have ever stayed at.  This beautiful campground resort located just outside of Boston (in the Foxboro area) features four swimming pools (one inside and one heated) as well as a large store, large activity center (including an upper level ‘quiet’ area for adults only), a snack bar, sauna, and so much more.  The sites are large and are all pull through.

The restrooms are in a league of their own when it comes to campgrounds.  They are well maintained, heated, and completely tiled (no concrete floors here).

This campground is a vacation within itself.

Campground Review – Buttonwood Campground, Mexico PA

Buttonwood Campground on the Juniata River is located about half way between Harrisburg and State College just off of Route 322 in Mexico, PA.

Buttonwood is an award winning campground.  They have great facilities including a beautiful, albeit small pool.  They have a great camp store.  They offer mini-golf and a jumping pillow.  Their primary focus is their canoe livery service and rentals.

I have personally camped at Buttonwood on 4 occasions and have always found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.  The restrooms are modern and clean.  The sites are roomy and well kept.  They do have some sites on their lower level (river side) that have hookups for an RV on the wrong side.  This can be slightly inconvenient as sewer lines and electric lines may be coming across from under your RV.  Be sure to ask about this upon reservation.
